The Abseil Challenge
HOW WILL THE ABSEIL WORK?
You will be taking on the UK’s highest freefall abseil. This is the first time a freefall abseil has taken place at the Cheesegrater.
If you haven’t heard of a freefall abseil before, this means that you will abseil down the rope without using a wall or building. Apart from the launch, you won’t touch the side of the Cheesegrater giving you the ultimate sense of freedom and a real adrenaline rush.
At the edge of the platform, you will individually step over the side and begin your breath-taking experience.
WHERE DOES THE ABSEIL TAKE PLACE?
You will be kitted up in your harness, helmet and gloves on Landing 42 before being taken to the roof of the Cheesegrater to start your abseil.
There will be 5 abseils taking place at the same time from the top floor of the Cheesegrater. Your expert abseil team will guide you to your launch location, where they will check your equipment and brief you on how to start your abseil.
HOW HIGH IS THE ABSEIL AND WHAT SPEED WILL I TRAVEL?
You will be taking on a 200m abseil; the highest freefall abseil in the UK.
This picture shows what the view will look like from one of the abseil launch locations. It’s a long way down!
The abseil speed of around 2 metres per second will be controlled throughout your abseil challenge by our expert team. So you can enjoy the panoramic views of London during this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
We recommend that you prepare to land by slightly bending your knees when you get close to the ground. Here, you’ll be greeted by our expert abseil team and celebrated by the Skyscraper Challenge crew who will guide you to the finish line.
