The London Landmarks Skyscraper Challenge took place on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September 2023.

The London Landmarks Skyscraper Challenge 2023 has now finished.

The London Landmarks Half Marathon has raised over £32 million for over 400 good causes. The Skyscraper Challenge has been created by the Landmarks team within Tommy’s to help raise even more money for Tommy’s and the charity sector, and to bring another incredible and exhilarating event to our participants.

The event has been created by the Landmarks team within Tommy’s and is owned by baby charity, Tommy’s. Tommy’s have created the event to raise money for Tommy’s and the event’s charity partners.

All profits from the Skyscraper Challenge go to Tommy’s. Tommy’s exist to save babies’ lives through funding research into miscarriage, premature birth and stillbirth.

The London Landmarks Skyscraper Challenge takes place at The Leadenhall Building and 30 St Mary Axe. These buildings are affectionately known as The Cheesegrater and The Gherkin because of their distinctive shapes.

The Cheesegrater and The Gherkin are two of London’s most iconic skyscrapers and they are located in central London, in the heart of the City. The Cheesegrater is 224 metres tall and The Gherkin is 180 metres tall.

The London Landmarks Skyscraper Challenge comprises three challenges and participants choose to do two.

Everyone takes part in the tower run up 42 floors of The Cheesegrater. Then it’s your choice how to get down. You can either abseil a jaw dropping 200 metres down The Cheesegrater OR zipwire from the roof of The Cheesegrater across London’s skyline into The Gherkin.

It is not possible to take part in all three challenges.

The London Landmarks Skyscraper Challenge took place on 9 & 10 September 2023.  We will be working with our key stakeholders to discuss the possibility of the event taking place again in the future.

You will complete your challenge on one day and will have been given an allocated day.

Your challenge will start with the tower run up The Cheesegrater. This will be closely followed by either the abseil or zipwire challenge, depending upon which challenge you have chosen.

All participants that support the same charity have been allocated the same event day. This is so that every supporter can meet and be cheered on by their chosen charity.

Tommy’s has the largest team size and will have supporters taking part on both days. Participants who are supporting Tommy’s have chosen their preferred day when filling out the event registration form.

In exceptional circumstances you can request to change your event day. To do this please contact [email protected]. Please be aware that if you take part on a day that hasn’t been allocated to your charity then your charity will not be there to meet you and cheer you on.

Now that all participants have completed their event registration form, we will be in touch with you to let you know your start wave.

Yes, we would love your friends and family to attend on the day.  You will receive a London Landmarks Skyscraper Challenge Event Guide prior to the event. This will give you all the information you need to ensure your friends and family have an amazing experience, including Meet & Greet Points and recommended viewing areas.

Yes. The tower run finishes at the 42^nd floor of the Cheesegrater.  At Landing 42 you will have the chance to rest after your tower run and meet the team who will be leading and guiding you through your next challenge.

Yes, the tower run challenge will be timed and we will provide more information about this closer to the event.

We are unable to permit photography or the use of GoPros for health and safety reasons. However, a photographer will be on site to capture the event.

After you’ve completed your Skyscraper Challenge you will be awarded your inaugural medal and specially designed Finisher’s T-shirt. We’d then love to welcome you back to Landing 42, at the Cheesegrater for the post-event party and of course a celebratory drink!

Yes, after you’ve completed your Skyscraper Challenge we would love for you to join us at the Post Event Party on Landing 42. Here you can enjoy your celebratory free glass of prosecco or soft drink and take in the spectacular views of London.

You are welcome to invite a maximum of 2 friends and family to join you at the Post Event Party.  For security reasons all guests must provide their details via our form by 8th September in order to access the Post Event Party

The Post Event Party will take place at Landing 42 and will be open throughout the event.

Your event day has been allocated based on the charity that you are supporting. All participants that support the same charity have been allocated the same event day. This is so that every supporter can meet and be cheered on by their chosen charity.

Tommy’s has the largest team size and will have supporters taking part on both days. Where possible, the event day for Team Tommy’s is based on the preference that was selected when registering for the event.

However, due to the limited capacity on each day, we have only been able to 100% confirm event days once almost all participants are registered.

* Please note that this refers to all participants who were registered before Midnight on July 23rd. Event days for these participants now have their event day 100% confirmed. Anybody who registered after this date we receive confirmation of their event day and start time at the end of August.

If you registered on or after 24th July and you are taking part for Tommy’s, in some exceptional circumstances we may be able to allocate you a specific day. However, please be aware that all Saturday places in the Tower Run & Zipwire challenge have been allocated and we are unable to allocate any zipwire participants to Saturday.

Due to the complexity of allocating start times, we are unable to change waves except in exceptional circumstances.

We have only been able to allocate start waves to participants who registered for the event before Midnight on July 23rd. Anybody who registered after this date will find out their start wave at the end of August.
